The mission of the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) Legacy Organization is to promote and perpetuate the memory of all who served on USS Indianapolis (CA-35). This summer the USS Indianapolis (CA-35) Legacy Organization is excited to offer you the chance to learn more about Indy’s history. The remembrance of the 80th anniversary of the ship’s sinking will take place at the exact location where the first Survivors Reunion occurred in 1960 – The Omni Severin Hotel in Indianapolis.
Join us as we remember the legacy of the final sailing crew to honor the men who served on USS Indianapolis – survivors and lost at sea – as well as those who served with their rescue. We will enjoy a banquet dinner with informative speakers as well as opportunities to reunite with Indy families and friends from near and far.

Wednesday, July 30, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of the tragic sinking of USS Indianapolis (CA-35). On this solemn day - following the close of the 80th Anniversary commemoration events - Indy’s lost-at-sea family members, survivor families, Honorary Survivors, and friends of Indy’s story will gather at the CA-35 Memorial by the canal in downtown Indianapolis to stand watch and honor her legacy.
Our Honor Watch will begin at sunrise and continue until late afternoon.
(Location: 692 Ellsworth Street, at the corner of W. Walnut Street.)
At 10:00 a.m., Roaring Thunder Chapter 1 will lead a ceremony honoring and remembering the 31 Hoosier Heroes who were killed in action aboard Indy. Family members of these lost-at-sea heroes will be in attendance.
This year’s 10th Annual USS Indianapolis CA-35 Honor Watch coincides with our 80th anniversary reunion, held July 27–30 at the Omni Severin Hotel.
Brig. Gen. J. Stewart Goodwin (USAF, Ret.), Co-Founder of our Annual Honor Watch and Executive Director of the Indiana War Memorial, will join us alongside active military personnel, veterans, musicians, members of the media, and other special guests. Together, we will remember a historic ship whose Gold Star Heroes and shipmates helped secure peace for future generations.
The Honor Watch is open to the public, and we warmly invite all to stop by in remembrance.
