HONORING THEIR LEGACY, INVESTING IN YOUR FUTURE

You are invited to apply for the 2026 USS Indianapolis/Gwinn "Angel" Scholarship! This annual award preserves the incredible legacy of the WWII cruiser and honors the pilot who led the rescue effort, Wilbur Charles Gwinn.
If you are a descendant of a survivor, lost-at-sea crew member, rescue personnel, or other significant part of USS Indianapolis’s legacy, you may be eligible to apply.
Application Period: Feb 1, 2026 – Mar 31, 2026

Requirements: Must be a high school senior or current college student in good academic standing (3.0+ GPA preferred), willing to research history and write original essays (no AI!).
Applicants must have a commitment to researching the ship's history and writing essays that are entirely original in composition.
Relying on AI tools to compose essays is unacceptable and will lead to disqualification.
