On April 9th, the Iowa House passed HR 114. 34 sailors, 4 survivors, 30 Lost at Sea were honored for their sacrifice and service. Jeff Ortiz, nephew of LAS Orlando Robert Ortiz was instrumental in getting the resolution written and passed. 33 members of the Iowa House co-signed on to this historic legislation. The Education Committee of the USS Indianapolis CA-35 Legacy Organization has created a website honoring the 879 men lost in the sinking on July 30, 1945 and nine lost in the kamikaze attack on March 31, 1945.
